Heart Children 2004-2005
Margaret from the Heart Children New Zealand Inc. was absolutely delighted with the quilt we had made. She couldn't believe how beautiful it was and the amount of work that we had collectively put into it. She tells me its new home will be the family room at the Starship Hospital in Auckland. Apparently the funding to furnish the room comfortably and to make it more homely has been slow in coming through and the Charge Nurse had only mentioned to her the other day how much better the room would look with something on the walls, so the quilt's arrival was perfectly timed and Margaret couldn't wait to take it to the hospital and show it to the staff there. I must say it was a great feeling being able to give this fantastic quilt to such a wonderful facility and to know it was so appreciated and appropriate to their needs. I'm sure the children and their families will love it! Thank-you to everyone who participated in the project, without all of your help it wouldn't have been possible. A big thanks also to Alison Bufton of 'Ali B's Quilting Touch' who machine-quilted it for us and provided the batting free of charge. To find out more about Alison's machine quilting service you can contact her at ali.bs.quilting@xtra.co.nz
Progress Report - 7th December 2004 I have just heard that Sue, Jill and Denise are putting the finishing touches on the quilt top and hope to have it on its way to me by the end of the week, where it will be admired continuously until it embarks on the next leg of its journey towards completion. Well done Angels! Fiona Marie Clark

Update 11 November 2004 I received a note from Sue the other day to say that the Angel block from Elizabeth Leary had arrived into the Gathering Angels hands. Sue wrote, "I'm looking forward to seeing more - it's like Christmas early!" Carol and Sylvia have written to tell me that their blocks are also in the post - Well done Angels! I have received the quilt label from Stephanie. I normally find the job of adding a label a bit tedious after the excitement of finishing a project, however this label is a work of art in itself and will be an endearing addition to this very special quilt. I will take a photo and post it on the page soon so you all can see. I have taken over block 6 from Rosemary who has opted to be involved in the next machine-stitched project we do. It was a little daunting choosing fabrics when you had no idea what everyone else was using, but from what I have seen so far it looks like the quilt is going to work and I am so looking forward to seeing it evolve from everyone's individual blocks. The gathering Angels hope to start piecing the quilt together by the last week of November so we are well and truly on our way to completing this delightful quilt for Heart Children NZ Inc. I have received some great feedback from the Angels who seem to really be enjoying the experience of being involved.
"It was so much fun!" Carol BlewI know I am enjoying seeing my block come together and like a few of the other Angels I'm tempted to have a go at making the entire quilt now I have seen what one of the blocks looks like. Fiona Marie Clark
