Heart Children 2005-2006

October 2006

The finished quilt:

June 2006

Country Collectibles Quilt

I received this message from Margaret at the New Zealand Heart Children Inc. office on the 8th June 2006.

Hi Fiona,
The quilt has just arrived and is gorgeous, thank you to all who took a part in making it.
I feel like putting it on my bed it has been so cold at night ... only joking!!!
Once again thank you for your co-ordination in the making of this and for all the efforts and quilts that we have benefited from through yourself and your quilters.
Regards
Margaret O'Sullivan
May 2006

Margaret has received some fabulous news from the buyers of the Everyday Angels Quilt at the Charity Auction in March. The owners of the quilt have donated the quilt back to the Heart Children New Zealand Inc. This is a lovely gesture and I will let you know where the quilt will be hung when a decision has been made regarding its future.

May 2006

Country Collectibles Quilt
This quilt has been hand quilted and is now being bound and having its finishing touches added by Julia O'Connell in Auckland before being presented to the Heart Children New Zealand Inc.

I will let you all know when this happens and where they decide to hang the quilt. I was fortunate enough to see the quilt recently and it looks fabulous. I will post a photo of the quilt as soon as it is finished for you all to admire!

23 March 2006

I received this email from Margaret O'Sullivan from the New Zealand Heart Children Inc. after the charity auction was held on the 12th March 2006.

"The quilt was admired by all who attended and was sold for $800. We had Richard Hadlee (who was a Heart Child many years ago) entertaining us and the main part of the evening was taken up with an interview with Scott Murray who we flew up from Wellington to talk about his Heart Transplant Operation when he was 16yrs (he is now 18yrs). He was lovely and very brave talking about all his feelings before and after the operation. I can't thank you enough for the effort you and your stitchers put into making this quilt."
The Country Collectibles quilt top is also now being hand quilted by Julia O'Connell from Auckland who offered her quilting services after seeing how delightful the quilt top looked all pieced together.

Everyday Angels

Country Collectibles

This year, through the generous spirit of all those stitchers who volunteered to be Angels, we have been able to make two quilts for Heart Children New Zealand Inc.

The first quilt is again made using Country Cupboard's 'Everyday Angels' pattern set. The Angels working on this quilt did an amazing job with their blocks and the quilt top came together beautifully.

After receiving all the blocks and sewing the top together I sent it to Auckland where Julia O'Connell hand quilted and bound the quilt for us. It was delivered to Margaret at The Heart Children offices on Thursday March 2, and will be displayed in the foyer of the Stamford Plaza Hotel in Auckland until the Starship Charity Dinner and Auction that is being held on March 12, 2006. I will keep you updated on the outcome of the auction.

The second quilt 'Country Collectibles' again from Country Cupboard Designs has also been put together and will now be sent away to be machine quilted before I deliver it the Heart Children offices in May.

This quilt will be displayed in the Heart Children ward at the Starship Children's Hospital.

The blocks have all been stitched and put together beautifully and I am sure it will delight the children and staff on the ward.
